CALL FOR PAPERS

The 3rd PeKlA 2014 International Postgraduate Conference (Perspectives in Classical Archaeology 2014) held at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.

Monday and Tuesday, 15th - 16th December, 2014

PeKlA 2014 is a two-day conference in Classical Archaeology and Classics for postgraduate and doctoral students in order to present their research to other colleagues. It traditionally offers a space for discussion, exchange of ideas and meeting others in a friendly and supportive environment.

This year the theme of the conference is:

THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF ANCIENT CULTURAL LANDSCAPE

Cultural landscapes of the ancient world are studied by archaeologists in various forms. All possible archaeological components separately and/or together from rural and urban settlements, industrial and religious facilities, resources and communications to burials, supplemented with historical, linguistic and art-historical studies, reveal the way of living and the thinking of ancient populations. Any research or new theoretical approaches can contribute to the creation of innovative interpretations and a shift in our understanding of classical culture.

Conceived broadly, this theme gives young scholars an opportunity to present and discuss their opinions and thoughts applicable to the theme. Papers are welcome from postgraduates in all stages of their research, both theoretical and practical. We believe that this conference will allow participants to meet, collaborate and share their ideas.

Those who do not fit in the topic are welcome to apply for the VARIA SESSION.

Abstracts of no more than 300 words for a 20-minute paper or poster (size A1) are expected before October 15th, 2014 at PEKLA@ff.cuni.cz. If you have any further enquiries, please use the same e-mail address before the deadline. Speakers will be notified by the beginning of November.

Conference fee: EUR 10,- (covers refreshment during the conference breaks; payable during registration).

Conference language: English.

The after-conference informal programme will culminate on Tuesday evening in the Departmental “Christmas/Saturnalia Party”!
